Health insurance

A health insurance is important. We help you with it!

  • Having a valid health insurance during all times while you are in Hungary is required by the National Directorate-General for Aliens Policing (the “Immigration Office”). Without an insurance you cannot apply for or renew your residence permit.
  • Accidents can always happen, just like illnesses. It’s better to be safe than sorry and be prepared for such situations.

We can offer an insurance for our students who study here with a scholarship (Stipendium Hungaricum, SCYP, Diaspora, At Risk) or for our fee paying international students – ERASMUS students can use their private insurance or their European Health Insurance Card (EHIC), about which you can find information below.

Who have their permanent residence in a Member State of the European Economic Area (EEA) are entitled to use healthcare services in Hungary. These citizens are entitled to use certain – medically necessary – healthcare services against their own health insurance in a different Member State or Contracting State. Entitlement to this care shall be certified by the EHIC Card. The nature of the service being medically necessary is adjudicated by the attending physician; accordingly, one shall directly contact the Hungarian healthcare provider that is contracted with the Hungarian social security and healthcare organisation. In practice this means all public hospitals.
The Card does not replace travel insurance, does not cover private services or property damage due to theft. In order to avoid such situations, it is useful to book separate insurance.

Your scholarship includes a health insurance option without any extra charge. Our contracted partner is the CIG Pannónia insurance company. We recommend you to take this opportunity so you don’t need to worry about your well-being!

Shortly after you enroll, we will notify you both in the University’s central platform (called Neptun) and in e-mail about the required steps and the deadlines for activating your health insurance.

We can recommend you the insurance of our contracted partner, CIG Pannónia insurance company.

The price of this insurance is currently 57,645 HUF / semester.

Please note that this insurance is optional – you are free to choose any insurance package and any insurance company that fits your needs.

The current validity period of your insurance ends on 31st August 2025. We will notify you in due time about the required steps and deadlines both in the University’s central platform (called Neptun) and in e-mail.

Included:

  • Diagnostic tests (X-ray, ECG, Ultrasound)
  • Laboratory tests
  • One-day surgeries
  • Reimbursement of medicines / bandages (to some extent)

Not included:

  • Any alcohol / drug related accidents
  • Anything related to pregnancy
  • Psychotherapy
  • Dental care (except for emergencies)

You must make a request for care via the Care Partner’s (TelaDoc) call centre (+36 1 998 0512), between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. on working days. Without this, you cannot visit the doctor.

If the doctor you were sent to by TelaDoc prescribes medicines, dressings or temporary medical equipment, be sure to ask for an invoice (“számla”) for your own name at the pharmacy when you buy them! Be sure to submit the ORIGINAL invoice AND copies of your medical documents to CIG Pannónia within 15 days and you can get a partial refund. You need to send the documents by post to: 1476 Budapest, Pf.: 325. In case of emergency:

In case you need to be taken to the hospital (emergency care), be sure to contact TelaDoc call centre (+36 1 998 0512) within 5 days! In case there were no medical procedures that are excluded from your insurance, you can get a 100% refund.

Be sure to ask for an invoice (“számla”) for CIG Pannónia’s name (CIG Pannónia Életbiztosító Nyrt) and address (1097 Budapest, Könyves Kálmán krt. 11/B) at the hospital! Then submit a copy of your medical documents and the ORIGINAL invoice to the address of CIG Pannónia: 1476 Budapest, pf. 325 within 15 days!
